  - Installing
    HCL Digital Experience provides flexible deployment options that range from proof-of-concept where you can examine and test functionality to a highly available and scalable production environment. Review the planning information to learn more about hardware and software requirements, high availability, scalability, supported topologies, and much more. Select your operating system and then select the installation pattern that most reflects your business needs.
  - Configuring
    Run the following tasks after you install and deploy HCL Digital Experience. They address tasks that are typically run one time and have a global effect. Some configuration changes are made more frequently or do not have a global effect. These tasks are addressed in the Administering section.
  - Backup and restore
    Backup and recovery of data files and databases is an essential operation for any business system, particularly for data and applications that run in production environments. Create and follow a plan for backing up and recovering data on all tiers of your HCL Digital Experience deployment. IBM Installation Manager must also be included in backup and recovery planning. If you back up the HCL Portal file structure and then install a fix pack, your HCL Digital Experience and IBM Installation Manager become out of sync after you restore the HCL Portal file system. This condition is not recoverable.

    Successful migration requires significant planning and preparation, understanding the tools that are involved, and careful execution of the appropriate steps in the order provided.

There are two methods for editing portal setup: using the administration portlets or the XML configuration interface. The administration portlets are a convenient way to make real-time updates to the portal's configuration. While the XML configuration interface is suited to more advanced administration, including batch processing of updates.

    Security tasks include setting up property extension databases and custom user repositories, configuring and activating SSL, and configuring authentication. In addition, tasks such as activating Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and NIST SP800-131a security modules and configuring external security managers such as Security Access Manager might be required to secure your portal environment.

      You can use Content Template Catalog to mock up a site quickly or to build the skeleton of a site as a basis for further development. By using the templating patterns that Content Template Catalog is built on, you can supply a customized system for your users that lets them build their own sites. Content Template 4.4 requires HCL Digital Experience 8.5 with CF08 or higher installed.

        It is recommended that Site Builder is used to start creating a CTC site. Site Builder automates the first few steps of creating a new site. Site Builder creates a site area, a content library, and a home page automatically. Depending on the site template design, the Site Builder also creates extra pages and links them to the home page. Developing a site without Site Builder means creating a home page and landing pages manually, setting up page component configurations, then adding special content such as teasers and integrating social media.
        Creating a site by using Site Builder
        The recommended method of creating a site is to use a Content Template compatible Site Builder template from the Site Builder wizard. This creates a site that is Content Template ready. You then edit the site by editing any existing pages and content, adding new pages using Content Template page templates, and adding Content Template portlets as required.
        Creating a landing page
        Landing pages group areas of content together to help people find the content that they need. For example, you might create a Communications landing page that organizes all News, Executive Communications, and Press Releases in one area of your website. Anyone that is interested in seeing the most recent communications opens that landing page first.
        Creating index and details pages
        Most page templates create a pair of pages. They have an index page to provide content navigation and a details page to display individual content items.
        Creating other pages
        All of the Content Template Catalog page templates specify the page parameter ibm.portal.instantiation.content.dynamic.copy.target.selection as true. This means that the page template instantiation code copies the content that is associated with the page template into the site area that is mapped to the existing parent page.
        How to create and edit content
        The Content Template Catalog templates have three types of inline content editing built into them. The Content Template theme extensions modify the inline page editing experience too.

Creating a CTC site by using Site Builder | HCL Digital Experience

The recommended method of creating a site is to use a Content Template compatible Site Builder template from the Site Builder wizard. This creates a site that is Content Template ready. You then edit the site by editing any existing pages and content, adding new pages using Content Template page templates, and adding Content Template portlets as required.

About this task

There are a set of Content Template compatible Site Builder templates:

Empty Content site template: This template creates a site with a home page with Content Template theme extensions enabled.
Site with Home Page Template: This template creates a site with a Content Template landing home page with Content Template extensions enabled. You can add pages later with the HCL Portal site toolbar and add content to the pages. The site includes a landing page that allows users to quickly start adding content while still providing the same flexibility of the Empty Content Site.
Internet site template: This template creates an internet site with Content Template theme extensions enabled. The site includes Landing pages and Index and Detail page pairs.
Intranet site template: This template creates an intranet site with Content Template theme extensions enabled. The site includes Landing pages and Index and Detail page pairs.

This example shows how to create a new site by using the Empty Content Site Template:

Procedure

Go to Site Builder and create a new site by using the Empty Content Site Template. This template creates a site with a home page with the Content Template theme extensions enabled.
Go to edit mode and add child pages by using the Content Template page templates as required
Add CTC portlets to the blank home page to display content and lists that would be most useful for your viewers.
