You can upgrade the HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) server to incorporate to a later version.

Installing
An HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) installation consists of a Deploy server, a database server, and at least one agent.

- Testing an upgrade
  Before you upgrade your production HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) server, for best results, perform a test upgrade, verify the challenges you are facing, and resolve them before performing an actual upgrade.
- Upgrading the server
  You can upgrade the HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) server to incorporate to a later version.
  - Upgrade notes and blockers
    While upgrading to a new version, beware of the changes specific to a build version and take appropriate action for any blockers.
  - Upgrading the server in interactive mode
    To upgrade the server, stop the server, and run the new installation program.
  - Upgrading the server in silent mode
    Use silent mode to upgrade without command-line prompts. To upgrade the server, stop the server, edit the properties file, and run the new installation program.
  - Post-upgrade tasks
    After you upgrade the Deploy server, you must review all post-upgrade tasks and perform them as required.
- Upgrading high-availability installations
  All servers that are configured for the HA feature must be on the same version. Thus, all servers must be upgraded at the same time.
- Upgrading agents
  In most cases, you upgrade agents from the server interface, but you can also upgrade the agents from the command line. Always upgrade agents and agent relays in addition to upgrading the server.
- Upgrading agent relays
  In most cases, you upgrade agents relays from the command line, but starting from 7.0.4.2 version, you can upgrade the server from the interface. Always upgrade agents and agent relays in addition to upgrading the server.
- Upgrading DevOps Deploy running as a container
  If you are running HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) as a container, you can upgrade the server, agent, and agent relays to a new version.
- Migrating the server to Kubernetes/Openshift
  You can migrate your HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) server from an on-premises production installation to a containerized instance that runs in a Kubernetes or Openshift cluster.

Post-upgrade tasks

After you upgrade the Deploy server, you must review all post-upgrade tasks and perform them as required.

The following table lists the tasks that you may need to perform after the server upgrade:

Task	Description
Database monitoring	After the upgrade, DBAs must monitor the database for at least a week to ensure optimal performance. It is important to perform the necessary database statistics actions and verify that the database is using the most efficient execution plans. For larger databases, using outdated execution plans after an upgrade can lead to significant performance issues.
Upgrade agents	You must upgrade agents that use Java™ plug-ins, including most source configuration plug-ins. See Upgrading agents for information about upgrading the agents. If you do not upgrade the agents, they will throw an IllegalCharsetNameException exception that refers to the variable DS_SYSTEM_ENCODING. See Agent throws IllegalCharsetNameException for troubleshooting the error.
Upgrade agent relays	Upgrade all agent relays to the current version. Agents that connect through relays may not connect successfully until both server and relay are upgraded.
Upgrade plug-ins	You may need to upgrade the plug-ins if they do not work after upgrade. See Installation of plug-ins for information about how to install plug-ins.
