Applying HCL licenses to agents

You can apply licenses to the HCL Launch agents that are associated with your order.

Before you begin

Make sure that you have an entitled (authorized or authorized z/OS) agent license and have acquired HCL Local License Server (LLS) or HCL Cloud License Server (CLS) path.

About this task

As an administrator or license manager, you can configure HCL Launch to use the entitled license.
Note: If you are using version 7.3.2.7 or before, you must upgrade to the 7.3.2.8 version and then configure the license information.

Apply license to agents by connecting the HCL Launch server to the HCL license server.

Procedure

  1. On the HCL Launch dashboard, click Settings > System Settings > License Management.
  2. Set the Automatic Agent License Type field to automatically apply licenses to newly created agents.
The available license types are stated by the current server license mode. For example, set the Automatic Agent License Type as Authorized for standard agents or Authorized zos for z/OS agents.
  3. In the License Server Path field, enter the license server URL. The following are the example URLs for your license type:
    • HCL Local License Server:
      https://lls-host:lls-port/v1/licensepools/deploymentID
    • HCL Cloud License Server:
      https://cloud_server/v1/licensepools/deploymentID
  4. Click Save Connection.
The HCL license server is configured with HCL Launch and displays the license status in the License Management page.
The following tips help you troubleshoot the license server connectivity.
  • Check if the license server is reachable by opening the license server URL in your browser or by using a curl command. You get the It Works! message on a successful connection.

This method also allows you to check if your instance has access to the Cloud license server even without a fully-configured device.

  • Increase the output sent to your server logs by enabling the debug for licensing log.

Navigate to Settings > System > Logging > Other Logs and enable logging for licensing from the Actions column. Then, save your changes.

The enabled licensing log is displayed as True in the log table.

    Note:

What to do next

After configuration, confirm that your agent license is active by clicking Resources > Agents. The licensed agents are listed as Authorized and flagged as true in the License column.
