Viewing thumbnail images of files in the community

Use the thumbnail file view to see images of files, such as photos, videos, or documents. Hover over a thumbnail image to download or view the file.

About this task

In any file listing, you can show thumbnails in a grid format. Thumbnail images are small images that represent the file.
  • A photo or image displays scaled to fit the thumbnail.
  • A video displays the thumbnail that was uploaded for it.
    Note: To add a thumbnail to a video, navigate to the files details page for the video, select More Actions > Change Thumbnail.
  • An office file displays the first page of the document.
  • Other types display a generic file type icon.
The Gallery app and the grid view include the ability to view files in the Preview window.

Procedure

Perform the following tasks to view community files in Grid view.
  • To view files in Grid view, click Show thumbnails in grid format Grid view.
  • To view file details and available actions, hover over a file thumbnail. The thumbnail shows details such as who last updated the file and when it was downloaded.
    1. To download and open the file, click Download Download .
    2. To view a file, click the back of the thumbnail or click Preview Preview.
    3. To view file information, click the file name or View file details Details.
    4. To pin a file, click the Pin Pin.
    5. To select a file, click the check box.
Perform the following tasks to view community files in a Preview.
  • To view files from the grid, click the back of the thumbnail or Preview Preview.
  • To browse through a file, take one of the following actions:
    1. Scroll through the file by using the scroll bar.
    2. Click Page down Next page or Page up Previous page.
      Note: You can browse a spreadsheet only by using the scroll bar.
  • To browse between files, click Next Next file or Previous Previous file.
  • To change the page display of a file, take one of the following actions:
    1. To change the page magnification, click Zoom in Zoom in or Zoom out Zoom out.
    2. To resize the page to fit the width of the window, click Fit width Fit width.
    Note: You cannot change the page display of a spreadsheet.
  • If the file you are viewing is a presentation, you can view it in slide show mode. View the presentation as a slide show by clicking Play Slide Show Play slide show. The slide show starts from the first slide.
  • To download a file, click Download Download.
  • To hide the details of a file, click Hide details Hide details. To display hidden details, click Show details Show details. File details include, for example: file size, the number of file versions, comments that are made on the file and its version history.
  • To access more file actions, click More Actions More actions. You can then take asctions such as follow the file or refresh the file.
  • To close the viewer, click Close Close.

Results

Note: The following restrictions apply when you are viewing Connections Content Manager media files:
  • In all cases, you can see the Grid View thumbnails, and open the File Preview dialog by clicking them.
  • When connected to a non-primary Enterprise Content Manager server the following restrictions apply:
    • You cannot see thumbnail images.
    • You cannot see the video preview button.
  • Note: This restriction applies to non-previewable files that are not media or IBM® Docs files and you are not on the library grid view or you are not in a view that uses a CCM-connected Gallery; you cannot use the Preview action or link in any view.
    Note: This restriction means the reverse side action of any Thumbnail works because they are used in the Library Grid View or CCM-connected Gallery.
  • When you are not logged in, you do not see thumbnail images.
  • In any situation where an administrator creates files through another interface such as ACCE, certain file metadata, other content, and their properties cannot be controlled if not operated on through the Connections Library.
