Workspace folder permissions terminology
Several key concepts are important to understanding workspace folder permissions.
- effective permission
- The level of access granted to a group, or exercised by a user, on the contents of a folder. The effective permission can be inherited from a parent folder or granted directly by an applied permission on the folder.
- Everyone
- The group of which every user is a member.
- permission
- The right to perform an operation on a protected object. Permissions can only be granted; they cannot be denied.
- privilege
- A user property that grants a permission. A user either has a privilege or does not have a privilege.
- protected object
- An object to which access is controlled. The ability to perform operations on a protected object depends on the user's privilege or the permission granted to the group of which the user is a member.
