When you create a user database using the Designer, you
apply a schema version to the user database. The copy of the applied
schema version resides in the user database. The schema version defines
the process model and forms for the defect and change tracking system.
Before you begin
Before you create a user database, you must create an empty
database container with tools provided by the database vendor.
Procedure
- Start the Designer.
- In the HCL Compass Schema
Repository Explorer view, click the schema repository where you want
to create the user database.

Click . The HCL Compass
Database Admin view opens.
- In the HCL Compass Database
Admin view, click the Create Database button.
The New Database wizard opens and prompts you through the steps
to create a new user database.
- In the Logical Database Name field,
type a name for the database that is between one and five characters
long.
- Optionally, enter a description of your database in the Comments field.
- Specify whether the user database is a production database
or a test database. The default setting is Production Database.
- Select the vendor to use for the user database and click Next.
- Enter the required database properties. These properties
are different for each database vendor.
- If you select Microsoft™ SQL Server as the vendor database, enter the physical database
name of one of the empty databases that you created with the database vendor tools.
- Click Next.
- On the Database Timeout Option page, enter a value (in
minutes) in the Timeout and Poll
Interval fields. If you do not want the database to time
out for idle connections, set both to zero (0). Click Next.
- On the Initial Schema Revision page, select a specific
version of a schema to associate with the new user database.
- Click Finish.
