HCL Commerce is a high-availability, highly scalable and customizable e-commerce platform. Able to support hundreds of thousands of transactions per day, HCL Commerce allows you to do business with consumers (B2C) or directly with businesses (B2B). HCL Commerce uses cloud friendly technology to make deployment and operation both easy and efficient. It provides easy-to-use tools for business users to centrally manage a cross-channel strategy. Business users can create and manage precision marketing campaigns, promotions, catalog, and merchandising across all sales channels. Business users can also use AI enabled content management capabilities.

        Migrating your staging database
        Migrate your staging database by backing up the database, then restoring the backup to your HCL Commerce Version 9 environment. Once the database is restored, you can run the premigration check and migration commands.
        Migrating your production database
        Migrating your Feature Pack 7 production database is completed in two parts: migrating a copy (or offline version) of your production database, and migrating the live version of your database. By migrating an offline version of your production database, you can test that database in your HCL Commerce Version 9 production environment.
        Migrating encrypted data
        When migrating IBM Websphere Commerce Version 7 to HCL Commerce Version 9.1 you must migrate your encrypted data. Previous versions of WebSphere Commerce allowed for your site to use 3DES (16bit merchantKey) or AES (32bit merchantKey) encryption. In HCL Commerce Version 9.1, only AES encryption is used.
        Migrating Assets tool assets
        After the reintroduction of the Assets tool in Management Center for HCL Commerce with HCL Commerce version 9.1.8.0, you can migrate your IBM Websphere Commerce Version 7 Feature Pack 7 assets, and ensure that your Assets tool configuration is correct, to continue using the tool in HCL Commerce Version 9.1.
        Building and deploying to your production environment
        The updated model for building and deploying to your production environment involves the creation and deployment of custom Docker containers that contain the various components of your HCL Commerce production environment. Once created, deploy the containers into your production environment to stand up your live HCL Commerce Version 9 site.

Migrating WebSphere Commerce

The following section outlines the production environment migration process. Once you are done migrating your staging and production database environments, you can deploy your migrated assets for your production environment, and switch your live traffic to your new HCL Commerce Version 9.1 site.

Before you begin

Create your HCL Commerce Version 9.1 build server. Later in the migration, you can use this build server to deploy your migrated custom assets in a runtime package. For more information about the build and deployment process, see Packaging customized code for deployment. Alternately, you can use your migrated Version 9.x HCL Commerce development environment for build and deployment during the migration process.
