Introduction

The static HTML starter store showcases all the store features and their different supported flows under different conditions. For example, you can see what an empty shopping cart page looks like, and a shopping cart page with more than 20 items and pagination invoked.

You do not need a development environment that is running on a WebSphere Commerce server to view these static assets. You can view static HTML store pages by opening them in a web browser. Additionally, you can display the names of the JSPs file that generate the HTML for the current page by using the highlight feature. The highlight feature marks off each JSP page and shows its name in the upper left corner of the area.

Demonstrating starter store capabilities

You can use the static HTML starter store to demonstrate store features and look and feel to perspective clients, executives, and technical professionals in your organization. You can also use the static HTML starter store to do a quick fit gap analysis of what is provided by default and what needs customization.

Accelerating web design

You can use the static HTML starter store to accelerate your web design cycle. When your web designers use the static HTML starter store as a starting point, the cost of building user interface within the JSP files is reduced. You can modify the HTML and CSS files using your favorite web designer tools and without a WebSphere Commerce development environment. The changes can be incorporated into the corresponding JSP files by a JSP Developer at a more convenient time.

Determine the JSP files that dynamically render the different areas on specific pages in a storefront. The highlight feature, one of the tools that are provided with the assets, is used to identify the JSP files that make up the page you are on. It marks off each area of the page that a JSP file represents and shows the file name in the upper left corner.

Best practices

  2. Create a fit gap analysis document to identify all the customization that is required in the store.
  3. Use the static HTML starter store pages to accelerate your web design cycle.
