Why it matters
This
European Union directive
seeks to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all people
and, in particular, their right to privacy with respect to the processing
of personal data. In the electronic communications sector, Directive
95/46/EC applies in particular to all matters concerning protection
of fundamental rights and freedoms, which are not specifically covered
by the provisions of this Directive, including the obligations on
the controller and the rights of individuals. Directive 95/46/EC applies
to non-public communications services.
