Importing and exporting an inventory list of applications
Importing an inventory list of your applications can save you time by reducing redundant manual work effort. Start with a sample spreadsheet of application attributes, or merge the sample spreadsheet with your existing list. Your list of applications must be in a CSV format. Make sure that you use a spreadsheet editor, such as Microsoft™ Excel or Apache OpenOffice Calc, to edit your .csv file.
Best practices for importing and exporting application lists
- Although AppScan Enterprise provides several predefined application attributes, your organization might track other criteria, such as compliance with the Financial Services (GLBA) act. You can add those customized attributes to the spreadsheet and import them into AppScan Enterprise. Any customized attributes that are defined in the .csv file must be defined in the Application Attribute Profile before you import the file and must be written in the language displayed in the user interface.
- The Name attribute is required.
- During the import process, AppScan Enterprise validates the file,
and creates a log file for any applications that are not imported:
- These attributes can be exported, but they are ignored during the import process: Formulas, Date Created, and Last Updated.
- Customized attributes that are not defined in the Application Attribute Profile are ignored.
- Values for any attributes with a dropdown value, such as Business Impact, cannot be modified. For example, High_1 rather than High.
- Values cannot contain special characters, such as < or >.
- Make sure that you keep the .csv file up-to-date with any changes that you make after the applications are imported. Otherwise, you might overwrite values that were modified in AppScan Enterprise. For example, you have the Business Impact set to 'high' in the .csv file, but you change the impact to 'medium' in the Application view. All application attributes are exported to the file, even if they are filtered from the Application view. You can export only the applications that you have user permissions to access.
- If you are adding only one or two attributes to existing applications, export the applications from AppScan Enterprise to ensure that you have updated content. Add the new attributes as column headers to the .csv file and import again.
- If you are adding new applications after the initial import process, create a new .csv file so that you do not accidentally overwrite existing content.
Importing an inventory list
Before you import an inventory list for the first time, export an empty application list. Exporting a list captures the attribute names to use in a .csv file.
About this task
Procedure
- In the Portfolio tab of the Monitor view, click the menu icon and select Export applications.
- Modify the attributes (column headers) in the .csv file if necessary. If you add multiple values for an attribute, use a comma to separate them. Add your list of applications to the file and make any other customizations.
- Click Import applications and import your CSV file.
