Overview

UnO AI Pilot is an intelligent virtual assistant embedded within HCL Universal Orchestrator, designed to improve customer experience through Natural Language Processing (NLP) interactions. It enables personalized self-service automation with instant, round-the-clock responses, allowing users to explore product capabilities, perform routine tasks, and receive troubleshooting support.

UnO AI Pilot introduces Generative AI capabilities that significantly expand its functionality. Unlike traditional assistants that simply answer questions, UnO AI Pilot acts as an intelligent co-pilot, leveraging advanced Generative AI to instantly translate plain-text prompts into fully structured workflow definitions. This accelerates development time and lowers the barrier to entry, enabling users to generate complex automation logic, script sequences, and orchestration flows simply by describing what they need.

Overview and Purpose

The UnO AI Pilot acts as an intelligent co-pilot, designed to:

  1. Accelerate Development: Instantly translate plain-text prompts into fully structured workflow definitions.
  2. Enable Self-Service: Allow users to perform routine tasks and explore product capabilities using natural language interactions.
  3. Enhance Support: Provide contextual guidance and advanced troubleshooting by analyzing job data.

Key Capabilities

The UnO AI Pilot provides the following major functionalities:

  1. Workflow Generation (When Generative AI is Enabled)

When GenAI capabilities are enabled, this capability allows users, including business users and SMEs, to create complex automation logic instantly using natural language prompts.

    • Function: Automatically creates complete workflows, script sequences, and orchestration flows directly within the Workload Designer.
    • Example Prompt: "Automate the month-end closing process, including ERP reconciliation and final report generation."
    • Output: The Pilot generates a structured draft workflow ready for user review and customization, including logical steps, dependencies, and task placeholders.
  2. Intelligent Agentic Actions (always)

The AI Pilot acts as an Agentic AI capable of running or managing actions on the user's behalf.

    • Task Execution: Allows users to perform routine operational tasks through chat prompts (Example: "Run the weekly sales report job stream" or "Change the priority of the database backup task").
    • Action Smart Cards: Presents interactive buttons or suggestions during a conversation to guide users to the next logical action.
  3. Conversational Knowledge and Troubleshooting

The Pilot acts as a contextual product expert.

    • Custom Knowledge Base: Users can upload their own internal FAQs and operational documents to ground the Pilot's knowledge, ensuring highly relevant answers.

Moreover, when GenAI capabilities are enabled, in addition to the above functionality, AI Pilot can provide:

    • Enhanced Answers: Delivers richer, more accurate responses to platform questions, providing contextual, actionable guidance instead of just documentation links.
    • Advanced Troubleshooting: Analyzes job output data and recommends corrective actions. It can leverage an internal symptom database (if available) to suggest the most appropriate resolution.

AI Pilot Interface: Canvas vs. Right-Side Panel

The AI Pilot feature is deliberately split across two locations within the UnO interface, each serving a distinct purpose. They look similar but do not share all functionalities.

Table 1.
Feature AI Pilot in the Canvas AI Pilot in the Right-Side Panel
Location Located inside the workflow design area (Workload Designer). Functions as a dedicated virtual assistant on the right side of the main console.
Primary Purpose Workflow Creation (Drafting automation logic). Virtual Assistant, Q&A, & Troubleshooting (Guided help and operational tasks).
Core Function Provides prompt-based assistance focused solely on building workflows. Offers structured help topics for managing the environment, monitoring, and self-service.
Supported Prompts Supports simple prompts related to the specific workflow being built. Supports broad questions, interactive Q&A, and guided assistance across the entire UnO environment.
Structured Topics Does not offer structured help topics. Offers topics like Managing your workload, Monitoring and environment information, Self-Service Catalog, and Troubleshooting.
Accessibility Note Features available in the right-side panel are not accessible from the canvas AI Pilot. Use the right-side panel for advanced assistance and troubleshooting.

Note on Integration

The UnO AI Pilot can also be integrated with external messaging tools (Slack, Teams, Google Chat) to extend its Intelligent Agentic Actions and notification capabilities outside the main console.
