Database storage by using a relational database

For storage of session information and optionally for configuration or optionally for accounting and billing information, install a supported database client and server. The supported products are described in the list of supported software.

Before you install the SafeLinx Server, verify that a supported relational database runtime client is installed on the same workstation. In Oracle database environments, you have the option to use a supported DataDirect Connect driver and Oracle Wire Protocol network drive in place of an installed runtime client.

You can configure several SafeLinx Servers to use the same relational database server and separate directory service servers. The relational database used by each SafeLinx Server must have a unique name.

For DB2®, install the DB2® Administrative Client or the Development Client on the SafeLinx Server workstation. For more information, see Configuring DB2®.

SafeLinx Server checks for a supported version of DB2® before it checks for a supported version of Oracle. If both DB2® and Oracle are installed on the server, DB2® is used by default when the version is 8.1 or later.

See Data storage for information about distinguishing between session information and accounting and billing information.

See Accounting and billing database schema for information about setting up a database for use with reporting and audit tools.
