Closed Captioning text:IBM Rational Functional Tester records user actions to create simplified test scripts that are easy to understand and edit. It also supports two scripting languages for advanced users. One is Java on the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform. The other scripting language is Visual Basic .NET on the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET platform.

Closed Captioning text:With the recording feature, you can record user actions and generate test scripts. You can use Rational Functional Tester to record and test any application controls in the application-under-test, including the control properties and data. After you finish recording, Rational Functional Tester displays the new test script.

Page title:Verification points Verification points

Closed Captioning text:While recording, you can create verification points. Verification points establish baseline information about the controls in your application. This information is compared with the information that is found and logged in the application when you play back a test script. While working with the simplified test script, you also have an option to insert the verification point to the simplified test script from the application visual.

Page title:Application visuals and test object map Application visuals and test object map

Closed Captioning text:While working with the simplfied test scripts, Rational Functional Tester captures snapshots of the application controls and displays the application visuals in the Application View. Application visuals provide a quick way to insert controls and verification points to the script without opening the test application. While working with Java or .NET scripting, Rational Functional Tester uses a test object map to represent graphical objects that are displayed in the application-under-test. Use the object map editor to control how a test script interprets information about test objects.

Closed Captioning text:In data-driven tests, Rational Functional Tester uses data from an external file as input to an application-under-test. Because data is separate from the test script, you can modify and share the test data without affecting the test script.

Closed Captioning text:The Rational Functional Tester playback feature replays your recorded actions. After playback finishes, you can view test results in the log. Results include any logged events, such as verification point failures, script exceptions, object-recognition warnings, and other playback information.

Page title:Integrations Integrations

Closed Captioning text:Rational Functional Tester can be integrated with the Rational solution for Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) applications such as IBM Rational Team Concert and IBM Rational Quality Manager. You can also integrate it with IBM Rational ClearCase. When Rational Functional Tester is integrated with Rational ClearCase or Rational Team Concert, you can share projects, scripts, script templates, test datasets, application visuals, and object maps with the testing team. When Rational Functional Tester is integrated with Rational Quality Manager, you can remotely do functional testing, view and analyze the execution logs, and record the results for reporting and analyzing.
