Managing business users

The Identity service serves as the central authentication mechanism for user access.

Note: When a transaction server is configured, the user links the new account to a transaction server user by selecting the Link user to the transaction server user checkbox found below the Login ID field. Upon selecting this option, the user is prompted to choose a parent organization, which in turn triggers the display of the Roles step. Site Administrators also have the ability to update the user account at a later time to establish or modify the link to the Transaction Server user.

The data of the business user persists in the Identity service database (PostgreSQL) along with business user groups, personas, and persona assignments. The Identity service includes the following business entities that you can manage:

  • users
  • user groups
  • user personas
  • permissions and actions

The Commerce Lab is responsible for loading personas from all available Packaged Business Capabilities (PBCs) and making that list available to business users responsible for assigning personas to other business users. Personas have permissions stored in the (PBCs). For more information, see Personas and permissions.

Site administrator

A site administrator is a user role with elevated permissions responsible for managing users, configurations, and operations within a specific site or environment. This role handles day-to-day administrative tasks such as creating users, configuring settings, managing access control, and performing actions across multiple PBCs. Site administrators have broader system access than PBC-specific personas. To request additional site administrators for your account, you will need to submit a support ticket. The new site administrators will be designated as delegates of the initial ones.
