        Controllers select gateways based on subnet similarity ranking, prioritizing gateways whose subnets best match the target's IP addresses when establishing connections.

  - Editing the properties files
    You can use the properties files in Remote Control to customize your environment, configure Microsoft Entra ID or LDAP, set debug options, and set controller and on-demand target properties. The files can be edited in the BigFix® Remote Control Server UI.

    Use properties to determine what type of information and how much is written to the broker, gateway, and target component log files.

How do targets select a gateway or a proxy?

Targets select gateways or proxies via the ProxyURL property. PAC files enable automatic selection based on criteria like IP address, routing different subnets through appropriate gateways.

When the properties Managed and ServerURL are configured on the target, it will periodically contact the server to send updated information about its status at the frequency specified in this property. Also, if a session is started by a controller, the target will contact the server to validate the session. If the ProxyURL is configured, the target will try to use the host specified in this URL before trying a direct connection.
